Two-Day Chrysanthemum and Coleus Show enthrals visitors at CSIR-NBRI, Lucknow

Lucknow: Lucknow witnessed a vibrant floral celebration on Saturday with the commencement of the two-day Chrysanthemum & Coleus Show–2025 at the Central Lawn of the Botanic Garden, CSIR–National Botanical Research Institute (CSIR-NBRI). The much-awaited annual event was inaugurated by  M. Devraj, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Appointment & Personnel, Government of Uttar Pradesh, in the presence of Dr A.K. Shasany, Director, CSIR-NBRI.

The exhibition has drawn wide public interest, reaffirming its popularity among Lucknowites. According to Dr K.J. Singh, Principal Scientist and Convener of the show, as many as 95 exhibitors are participating this year, showcasing a total of 671 exhibits. Large numbers of visitors thronged the venue on the opening day to admire the floral displays and engage with experts.

The show offers a rare and enriching opportunity for the general public to explore the immense diversity of Chrysanthemum and Coleus varieties while gaining scientific insights into their cultivation. A key highlight is the display of 75 unique Chrysanthemum germplasm varieties, featuring an impressive spectrum of colours, forms, and flower types—an experience seldom available on a single platform.

To enhance awareness and outreach, a dedicated information counter has been set up to disseminate details about the CSIR Floriculture Mission, a national initiative led by CSIR, New Delhi, and implemented across multiple states. Flower growers, farmers, and budding entrepreneurs interacted directly with CSIR-NBRI scientists, seeking expert guidance on cultivation practices, disease management, and market opportunities. Beneficiary farmers of the mission also participated actively, showcasing and selling their floral produce at the venue.

Several exhibitors were recognised through memorial trophies and challenge cups. King of the Show was awarded to Saubhagya Srivastava of Celebrity Garden, Ansal, for a large-flowered Chrysanthemum specimen. Queen of the Show went to Alfred Gomes of La Martiniere College, Lucknow, for a small-flowered Chrysanthemum, while Prince of the Show was won by Mishika from Devlok Colony, Nilmatha, for a spider Chrysanthemum specimen.
